Hi! I’m Mara!
And I am about to do something REALLY crazy amazing! (Mum, this is the point where you stop reading)
I just signed up for Golden Globe Race! And if you are not either in shock, or worried for my life right now, it means I need to tell you a bit more about what this is.
The GGR is a retro sailing race where the rules are simple: You are gonna sail singlehanded, non-stop around the world in a sailboat with 1968-technology.
That means:
you are ALONE
you will be at sea for approximately 9 months
you must navigate only using a sextant
Actually, that means:
I will be alone
I will be at sea for approximately 9 months
I must navigate only using a sextant
You see what I mean? Pretty darn AMAZING! You can read more about the GGR here. But stay on this page to learn a bit more about my journey to the GGR.
Follow My Journey
As I am writing this I do not have a boat, I do not have the required solo miles in a boat, and to be honest, I got NO CLUE what is waiting for me. But I am not gonna let that stop me! And as I learn and prepare for this race, I want to take you with me on my journey. I am documenting the journey from starting to look into joining the race to finishing the race.
So if you are interested in seing what it takes to compete in the GGR, or you want to see someone on something I expect to me a rollercoaster both mentally and physically - please follow me on YouTube and Instagram. You find me under captain.mara

Requirements
There is a whole bunch of required equipment for this race, mostly related to safety (thankfully). To see the full list of what is required, check the link below. This is basically what all the money I am collecting will go to.
-
The race starts the 6th of September 2026 in Les Sables d'Olonne in France. That is also when the race ends.
-
There are requirements in terms of boats, qualifications and equipment. But the unique thing about this race is that it is made for the "normal sailor". It is not about who has the most money and fanciest boat.
-
Yes, I would say so. But the good kind of crazy (I hope).
